Who is eligible?

Almost every working parent in The Netherlands is eligible to receive financial support from the Dutch Government to help with the cost of childcare. Dutch childcare allowance is available to parents working in The Netherlands irrespective of nationality, income or the type of day-care centre they choose to use.

All families where both parents are working, regardless of their income, nationality, and live in The Netherlands are eligible to receive the Dutch childcare allowance. This includes tax-exempt Diplomats and employees of International Organizations (see Protocol Guides below).

The savings are significant!

What are the conditions to receive the allowance?

Parents using formal childcare (day-care centres) are entitled to the childcare allowance. There is also no minimum income required. Even if one parent is studying, the other is working and if they have children between the ages 0 - 12 years - they are eligible to receive this allowance to assist with their childcare costs.

Basically the various conditions are as follows:

1. Both parents are legally employed during the fiscal year or one parent is working and the other studies;
2. The applicant parent is working legally in The Netherlands and their spouse or partner (if living at the same address as the applicant parent) works in the European Union;
3. Single parent families also qualify to receive the allowance;
4. Your child needs to be attending a registered day-care or after-school centre.
